Hindrance within Burden
Hindrance within Burden is an experimental typographic poster that explores the psychological tension and disorientation that arise at the intersection of the Korean and English language systems. Set against the experience of living abroad, where a foreign language becomes part of everyday life, the work investigates linguistic friction and collision through the combination and deconstruction of Hangul and Latin typography.
Developed within the context of a fictional exhibition, the project adopts complex narrative, expressive attitude, and experimental approach as its key conceptual frameworks, visualising the structural tension that emerges when languages overlap. The posters are presented as a three-part series addressing the states of burden, hindrance, and the ambiguous condition where the two coexist. Viewers can access an accompanying motion poster through their mobile devices, where the typography expands into movement, intensifying the sense of confusion and psychological pressure embedded in the work.
